The New Year is here! A lot of enthusiasm and incredible energy surrounds us. There is no time better than this to restore the balance in our lives to help lighten the loads we carry. This is what I call “The Magic of Moderation.”

Why Moderation is Important?

It’s no secret we moderns live in a world of excess. The online world is relentlessly finding more and more space in our daily lives. It is inescapable. Mountains of desires, sky-high expectations, the daily grind, and the whooshing joys — all leave us in a tizzy, torn and tired. We need to inject a good dose of balance to improve the quality of our lives.

Small tweaks in our daily lives can create a virtuous cycle of balance and harmony. Let’s take a stroll down the moderation path.

1. Money

Undeniably important for our security and well-being, so chase the bag. But keep one thing in mind- money is the means and not the end. These are tough times, so spend your hard-earned money carefully. You can cut down spending on impulse or frivolous things. Sock away for your financial well-being.

2. Food

Just a couple of years back, we saw some challenging times (to put it mildly) concerning health. We need to eat a healthy, nutritious, and balanced diet. But then, there is a smorgasbord of fast food and other delicacies tempting us all the time. We may have that slice of cake or a bite of chocolate once in a while. Moderation is the key.

We can keep our pantry at home stocked with healthy ingredients to cook healthy meals. If that’s not an option then you can use healthy meal delivery services. You’ve got to make the right choices to stay healthy.

3. Pleasure

Don’t be apologetic about soaking in the sun or a dip in the pool or whatever is your thing. We need to relax and have fun. When YOLO becomes an only pleasure-seeking exercise- that’s when things become uncool. Pleasure at the end of a hard day’s work has a different flavor. It then carries a joyous vibe. So practice moderation to enjoy life in the truer sense.

4. Mindfulness and Exercise

Mindfulness and exercise are having a major moment. It’s because stress levels are at an all-time high and people are more health conscious than ever.

Recently I stumbled upon the term — hot girl walk. It’s about a four-mile outdoor walk accompanied by an inspirational podcast. Though it’s a fitness exercise, the main focus of this walk is mental growth for a positive outlook. Sounds interesting!

Walks in nature, breathing, yoga, pilates, et al are all different ways to achieve physical and mental equilibrium. You can choose whatever suits you the best. Some people get obsessively addicted to them and harm themselves. Done in moderation we can reap their maximum benefit. Taking a rest is equally important.

Final thoughts

As the old adage goes, we sow the wind(unhealthy habits), and we reap the whirlwind — the morass of greed, vanity, and depression. The choice is always ours.

“A slight change in your daily habits can guide your life to a very different destination.” James Clear.

Work on these healthy habits no matter how tiny they look now. If practiced daily we can step into a better version of ourselves with every passing day. That’s the nub of moderation and balance.
